International Litigation and Arbitration
John Beins represented various Afghan construction companies in resolving their multi million dollar claims arising out of work performed for coalition forces in Afghanistan. One claim was confidentially resolved at the close of discovery and the second was confidentially resolved following a multi million dollar jury verdict obtained by Mr. Beins and co-counsel in federal court in Tennessee.
Multi-State/Multidistrict Litigation
John Beins and Seth Goldberg have significant experience with complex, multi-state and federal multidistrict litigation. We assumed a critical role in the Zometa Products Liability MDL. In fact, John Beins was lead trial counsel in 4 straight plaintiffs’ verdicts awarding millions of dollars in federal courts in Florida, New York and Missouri. In another large scale lawsuit, Mr. Goldberg and his co-counsel achieved consolidation in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, Baltimore Division in the matter of In Re: Royal Ahold Securities and Erisa Litigation.
Whistleblowers – False Claims Act
John Beins and Seth Goldberg represent whistleblowers in pursuing claims against wrongdoers – often present or past employers- under the False Claims Act which allows private citizens to file suit on behalf of the government (called “qui tam” suits) against those who have defrauded the government. Private citizens who successfully bring qui tam actions may receive a portion of the government’s recovery up to 30% of the amounts recovered. Examples of False Claims Act suits would be Medicare and Medicaid Fraud (i.e. charging for goods or services not provided or misrepresenting the quality of goods or services provided) or knowingly selling goods and services to the government that do not comport with the requirements of the government contract and/or the law.
